Associated HTML Emails
One way to encourage your customers to purchase additional items is to have cross-linked purchases based on the actual product type. The best way to explain this concept is by using the example below...
Your customer purchases a Buffy The Vampire Slayer DVD set from your store. When adding the product to your database, you included a list of relevant keywords within the "Associated Keywords" field of the Product Add area. Those keywords were "Sarah Michelle Gellar", "David Boreanaz", "Alyson Hannigan", "Joss Whedon", and "Vampire". When you added the "Firefly Complete Series" DVD set to your store, you included the keywords "Joss Whedon", "Nathan Fillion", and "Alan Tudyk". When you added "Dodgeball" to your store, you included the keywords "Vince Vaughan", "Ben Stiller", "Alan Tudyk" and "Stephen Root".
Now... when someone purchases a product from your store, assuming you've enabled the Associated Items feature, the software will READ this set of keywords and cross reference it with up to four other products which have a perfect match to these keywords. If we assume that your customer purchased "Buffy The Vampire Slayer" from your store, and ALL of your products had associated keywords applied to them, then their "Order Confirmation Email" may have randomly displayed the following items...
Firefly Season One (matched to "Joss Whedon", the creator)
Taste The Blood Of Dracula (Hammer movie, matched to "Vampire")
American Pie (matched to "Alyson Hannigan)
Angel Season One (matched to "David Boreanaz", "Alyson Hannigan" or "Sarah Michelle Gellar")
So now that they've placed their order with you, their inbox immediately contains further prompting to return to your store and place orders for other items which directly, or indirectly, relate to the products that they have just purchased.
The beauty of the Associated Keywords is that they can be YOUR interpretation, right down to including the year of the product release, the country of origin... anything that could link this product to another product to encourage a cross-linked purchase.
