Discount On Registration
Incentives are often overlooked by store owners, and for good reason. The accepted viewpoint is that if a customer wants to purchase something, and you're offering that product, then they will likely purchase from you and would require no further incentive to do so as their "need overrides the greed", so to speak.
Whilst this may be true in some cases, there are others who will base their buying decisions on more than just availability and the fact that they are looking at the product on your website. In fact, with more and more ecommerce stores popping up on the web... the customer is more likely to browse for other stores offering the same product at either a reduced price, or with free shipping, free gifts, tie-in promotions or any other means that will make their store stand out from the rest.
Enter the "Discount On Registration" facility. This module does exactly what it says on the tin - offers your customers a discount for registering with your store, and placing an order with you within a certain timescale. This system actually provides your customers with a temporary VIP status, allowing them to receive and automatic discount for ALL orders within the specified period.
For example, if you have your VIP Account Tiers set up as 1% for Bronze accounts, 3% for Silver, 5% for Gold and 10% for the big spenders... the Platinum account holders... then you could set your preferences to offer a Gold VIP account (ie 5% discount) for any orders placed within the next 48 hours to encourage the customer to stay on your store and place the order with you. You have full control over the percentage discount for each of the account tiers, and have full control over how long the temporary VIP status applies.
As soon as the expiry period is reached (accurate to the second), the customer's account will revert back to "Basic" status, which means that they will no longer receive an automatic discount. The added bonus of this method is that, once your customer places their first order and receives their discount, this can trigger the "something for nothing" chip in their brain and entice them into placing multiple orders before their account status reverts back to basic.
